The Portable Document Format (PDF) is the file format created by Adobe Systems in 1993 for document exchange. PDF is a fixed-layout format used for representing two-dimensional documents in a manner independent of the application software, hardware, and operating system.

How do you say “That’s more than I need to know,” and yet this is a very popular way to receive digital documents and is a fairly standardized method that is currently being considered by the US Judicial System as the method of choice in the future for filing documents.
